Privacy for the Urlish app

What you save goes to our server, and we read it. That is what the app is for: you hand it a link, a screenshot or some pasted text, and it comes back as a page you can actually use. Doing that means sending it to us and running it through an AI model. There is no version of this app that works without that, so it is the first thing on this page rather than a footnote.
This page covers the iOS app only. The urli.sh website is a different product with a different answer — that one is on the main privacy page.
What we hold
- Your email address, because signing in is either Google or a code we email you. It is the account.
- What you save — the link, the pasted text, or the image — and the page we make from it. Both are kept so you can open it again, and so the second person to save the same link does not pay to extract it twice.
- Your folders and anything you have edited or noted on a saved page.
Who else sees it
Reading a saved thing means sending it on. Each of these gets only what it needs to answer, and none of them gets your email address or an account identifier.
- OpenAI
- The caption, the pasted text, the image, or a video’s transcript, so it can be turned into a page. Sent through their API, which is not used to train their models.
- The platform you saved from
- Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest or Facebook, to read the post you pointed us at — the same public page anybody with the link sees. Sometimes through a scraping vendor when the platform will not answer us directly.
- Google Maps
- The nameof a place mentioned in something you saved, to find its address, opening hours, rating and photographs. Nothing about you is sent, and the photographs stay on Google’s servers — we link to them rather than copying them.
Permissions, and what they are for
Both are asked for at the moment you first need them, never at launch, and the app works without either.
- Notifications
- Asked for the first time you set a reminder on a place. Used to deliver that reminder and nothing else.
- Location — while using the app
- Asked for the first time you set a reminder for when you are nearby. Your location never reaches us.iOS itself watches for you arriving near the place and tells your own phone to show the reminder; the app is never given a coordinate, and there is nothing for us to store or send. This is also why it is “while using the app” and not “always”.
What stays on your device
Your reminders, and the edits you make to a page — a corrected line, a note on a place, a stop you added — are kept on the iPhone in the app’s own storage. Reminders in particular are never uploaded: where you intend to go is a heavier thing to hold than a saved link, and there is no reason for us to have it.
What the app never does
- No analytics. There is no analytics SDK, no crash reporter, and no advertising identifier in the app.
- No tracking.Nothing is shared with data brokers or advertisers, and nothing follows you into other companies’ apps.
- No selling. What you save is not sold, rented, or handed to anybody beyond the three named above.
Your choices
Deleting a saved thing removes it from your library. To have your account and everything in it deleted outright, email urlishapp.support@gmail.com and we will do it.
Turning off notifications or location in iOS Settings stops reminders working; nothing else in the app depends on either.
