Privacy for the Urlish app

What stays on your device

Everything the app remembers is stored on your iPhone and never leaves it:

• the links you have opened, and the page title and thumbnail fetched for each;
• any notes you write on a link;
• whether you have seen the welcome screen.

This is held in the app’s own storage on the device. It is not synced, not backed up to any service of ours, and not readable by us. Deleting an entry removes it and its thumbnail; deleting the app removes all of it.

What leaves your device

The app makes three kinds of request. Each goes from your iPhone straight to the party named — never through a server of ours, because we do not run one for this app.

The page you shared

To show its real title and thumbnail, the app asks that page for them, the same way a link preview in Messages does. The site sees a request for its own page, as it would if you had opened it in a browser.

Apple’s App Store lookup

To show an app’s real icon next to each option, the app asks Apple’s public lookup service for the icon belonging to a bundle identifier. What is sent is the identifier of an app, never anything about you or the link.

Link shorteners

If a link is shortened, the app follows the redirect to learn where it actually points, so it can offer the right app. The shortener sees the request for its own short link.

None of these carry an account, a device identifier, or anything that identifies you. When you pick an app to open a link in, that happens entirely on the device — iOS hands the link over directly.

What the app never does

• No analytics. There is no analytics SDK, no crash reporter, and no advertising identifier in the app.
• No tracking. Nothing you open is reported anywhere, and nothing is shared with data brokers or advertisers.
• No account. There is nothing to sign up for and no profile attached to you.
• No permissions. The app asks for no access to your location, contacts, photos, or camera, and holds no entitlements beyond the ones every app has.

Your choices

Clear History in the app deletes every stored link, note, and thumbnail at once. Individual entries can be swiped away. Deleting the app removes everything it stored.

There is no request to make of us for a copy of your data, or for its deletion, because we hold none of it. Anything the app remembers is already in your hands, on your device.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages and collects no data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this page changes materially the date at the top changes with it. If a future version of the app ever collects anything, this page will say so before that version ships.
